🌱 SEEDS, SYMBIONTS, PARASITES & METAMORPHS #

Seeds, symbionts, parasites, and metamorphs are the four biological mechanisms through which the planet Muterra and the substance MUTA control processes of growth, adaptation, and regeneration.
Together, they form the foundation of the planet’s biosphere and all biotechnological systems developed by the survivors.
1. General Role and Relationship #
| System | Primary Function | Operating Principle |
|---|---|---|
| Seeds | Environmental expansion, defense, terraforming | Activated by MUTA, forming living structures. |
| Symbionts | Enhancement and adaptation of the host | Integrate into organisms, creating mutual benefit. |
| Parasites | Control or degradation through extraction | Drain energy, sometimes granting secondary effects. |
| Metamorphs | Renewal through death | Born when a host organism is consumed and reborn. |
All four systems follow a single rule:
Nothing disappears — everything transforms into new life.
2. Seeds #
Seeds are biological programs that store encoded growth patterns.
Each seed contains a concentrated core of MUTA and dormant cells ready to activate upon contact with a compatible environment.
Once triggered, the seed grows rapidly, forming plants, organic structures, or semi-living mechanisms.
Growth time varies from minutes to hours, depending on composition and conditions.
Types of Seeds:
- Defensive — create living barriers, thorn walls, or armored stalks.
- Offensive — develop into predatory plants, acid projectors, or spore launchers.
- Healing — release regenerative spores or form healing zones.
- Resource — generate energy, MUTA deposits, or biomass.
- Adaptive — alter terrain, stabilize ground, or produce bioluminescent flora.
Seeds are essential tools of survival and terraforming, allowing construction and defense without machines.
3. Symbionts #
Symbionts are living organisms that exist in stable cooperation with a host.
They merge with tissue, nerves, or bloodstreams, enhancing the host without destroying it.
They accelerate regeneration, boost reflexes, and increase tolerance to toxins and mutation.
In exchange, they require a constant flow of MUTA or nutrients.
Categories:
- Surface symbionts — live on the skin, forming natural armor or toxin layers.
- Internal symbionts — bond with organs and circulation, improving physical functions.
- Neural symbionts — link to the brain, enhancing perception and cognition but potentially altering personality.
Among Symbiote factions, this process is seen as sacred cooperation.
For Pures and Technomorphs, it represents corruption or loss of integrity.
4. Parasites #
Parasites are aggressive organisms that feed on the energy and structure of their host.
They may provide temporary strength or heightened senses, but always at a cost.
Characteristics:
- Exist in both external and internal forms.
- Influence perception, emotion, and control.
- Spread through contact, spores, or wounds.
- Intensify under active MUTA exposure.
Types:
- Negative parasites — purely destructive; weaken or consume their hosts.
- Positive (artifact) parasites — can provide temporary benefits or access to rare energy, but always cause pain, dependency, or physiological degradation in return.
Parasites embody Muterra’s fundamental principle:
Every gift demands a price.
5. Metamorphs #
Metamorphs are the final phase of certain parasitic life cycles.
Once a parasite completely consumes or replaces its host, a mutation burst occurs —
the host’s body collapses, and a new creature is born.
Traits:
- Retain fragments of memory and instinct from the host.
- Unstable, rapidly growing while MUTA remains available.
- Feed on organic matter and expand the biome.
- Can merge into collective entities — “macro-metamorphs.”
Metamorphs embody the planetary law of Muterra:
Life feeds life. Death is another stage of growth.
Some factions weaponize controlled metamorphs; others hunt them for crystallized MUTA that forms in their cores during decay.
6. Ecological Role #
Together, these systems form the biological feedback loop of Muterra:
- Seeds create and expand life;
- Symbionts maintain balance and cooperation;
- Parasites regulate populations and trigger evolution;
- Metamorphs recycle death into new ecosystems.
This cycle sustains Muterra’s self-evolving balance,
where every form of life becomes part of a continuous transformation.
