🌱 Seeds as a Game Mechanic #

Seeds are the foundation of MUTERRA’s biotactical gameplay system.
They are living bioprograms used by players for defense, offense, terraforming, and area control.
In gameplay logic, all organic deployable entities (including symbionts, parasites, and metamorphs) are collectively referred to as “seeds”.
Their classification depends on how they interact with living matter and the environment, not their form.
1. Core Concept #
Seeds serve as a replacement for traditional in-game stores and loot systems.
Players don’t buy abilities — they earn and grow them.
Each match is a tactical ecosystem: the player terraforms the battlefield in real time, creating living mechanisms that:
- enhance the character,
- protect key positions,
- damage or infect enemies,
- mutate the terrain for strategic advantage.
You don’t just fight — you reshape the world around you.
2. Categories of Seeds #
| Category | Purpose | Example Behavior |
|---|---|---|
| Offensive | Attack enemies | spike bursts, spores, explosive pods |
| Defensive | Create barriers and turrets | form living fortifications, block passages |
| Trap | React to movement | grab legs, immobilize, release toxins |
| Symbiotic | Enhance the player | improve healing, strength, or mobility |
| Parasitic | Infect targets | drain energy, spread through contact |
| Metamorphic | Evolve into new creatures | spawn living entities from dead hosts |
3. Infection and Growth Mechanics #
- Seeds activate upon contact with living tissue or MUTA-rich soil.
- Any organism containing blood or biomass can be infected.
- Purely botanical lifeforms cannot be infected but may serve as carriers.
- The stronger the host, the more powerful the resulting metamorph.
Players can:
- infect enemies, so that new creatures hatch from their corpses;
- infect neutral fauna, to control local ecosystems;
- throw or deploy parasites as biological projectiles;
- plant seed-turrets to protect territory and extend vision.
4. Terraforming and Strategy #
Each match represents a living, shifting ecosystem.
Players modify terrain and create biological structures that remain active and influence the map.
Practical applications:
- build defensive lines with turrets and traps;
- create choke-point fortifications;
- prepare infected zones before enemies arrive;
- use parasites as living mines or crowd-control tools.
Through this system, MUTERRA combines elements of Tower Defense, MOBA, and RTS,
but without static builds or item purchases — progression happens through organic interaction.
5. Seed Evolution and Artifact Synergy #
Seeds can be evolved to:
- increase growth speed, area of effect, or durability;
- change their damage or mutation type (acid, poison, radiation, MUTA-field).
Certain artifacts allow pre-match customization — such as:
- building seed farms to generate creatures faster;
- boosting a specific seed category;
- enhancing infection or mutation efficiency.

6. Tactical Role #
Seeds turn combat into a hybrid of strategy and biological warfare:
- each faction uses its own variations of seeds;
- players plan infection vectors, growth timing, and defense layouts;
- every match becomes a unique, evolving ecosystem.
This system makes MUTERRA a game about controlling living matter,
not just mastering weapons or skills.
